District Elementary Grading Plan

April 15, 2020

Greetings, Konocti Unified Students and Parents,

Konocti site and district management teams have been collaborating with educational leaders throughout the region to decide how best to serve students during the statewide shelter-in-place order. Distance Learning, initiated in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and in adherence to state guidelines, has afforded students the opportunity to continue learning and working. However, in a time filled with confusion and uncertainty, one of the most pressing concerns raised by students, parents, and teachers has been the subject of grading.

Our priority is to maintain equity and to honor the hard work of our students. Accordingly, we will observe the following criteria for our elementary students enrolled at Burns Valley, Highlands, Pomo, East Lake school, KEC, Lower Lake Elementary.

  • At this point in time, the new trimester begins.
  • To maintain a passing letter grade or to improve these grades, students will continue to submit assignments in all subjects on a weekly basis.
  • Students’ final grades will be based on a culmination of the grades earned each week for this third trimester. Please refer to the grading rubrics that are listed below

Grades 4 – 7 Modified Grading Rubric

A     Demonstrates grade level or beyond learning through the weekly submission of work

B      Demonstrates learning that covers grade level quality and depth through the weekly

submission of work

C      Demonstrates learning that moves close to grade level quality and depth through the

weekly submission of work.

D     Submits weekly work that demonstrates learning for each of their classes.

Grades K – 3 Modified Grading Rubric

Passing     Demonstrates grade level or beyond learning through the weekly submission of

work

Passing     Demonstrates learning that covers grade level quality and depth through the

weekly submission of work

Passing      Demonstrates learning that moves close to grade level quality and depth through

the weekly submission of work.

Passing      Submits weekly work that demonstrates learning for each of their classes.

KUSD strives to support students in preserving the progress they made prior to school closures and demonstrating further learning in ways that are appropriate to the context of Distance Learning.  Students, please work hard and maintain communication with your teachers. Parents and guardians, please continue to support your child, and stay in close communication with your child’s teachers.

Thank you again for your hard work and continuing support,

Thad R. Owens
